Two men were shot Thursday afternoon while standing in a driveway in central Evanston, the second shooting in two days.

The men were standing with others near a vehicle in the driveway of a home in the 1700 block of Payne Street at about 4 p.m., when two other men who appeared to be in their 20s approached and shot at them before running westbound. A 35-year-old Evanston resident was hit in the left leg, while a 51-year-old Elgin resident was struck in the right hip and left ankle.

Both men were taken to Evanston Hospital for treatment. The 35-year-old man has no life-threatening injuries. The 51-year-old man was taken into surgery and is in critical, but stable condition, said Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan.

One of the shooters was described wearing a black hat and black shirt and the other wearing a red shirt.
