Judge Jerry Esrig has been reappointed to fill a vacancy on the Circuit Court of Cook County after failing to win the election for a seat last March, the former Evanston attorney wrote in an email to supporters Friday.

The Illinois Supreme Court reappointed Esrig (Weinberg ’74) on Dec. 2. He will assume the position Jan. 30.

“So after a very short break, I will be back doing the job which I so immensely enjoy — serving the people of Cook County as a Circuit Court Judge,” Esrig wrote in the email.

Esrig was sworn in as a Cook County judge in October 2013. Esrig will run to keep his seat in the ninth judicial subcircuit in the 2016 Democratic Primary.

“While the March 2016 primary is still sixteen months away, the work toward a winning campaign will begin right after the new year,” he wrote in the email.
