An Evanston resident assisted police Saturday in arresting two Chicago men in connection with a burglary from a car, police said.

Police received a 911 call around noon on Saturday from a resident who said he saw two men enter the cab of a pickup truck parked in his driveway in the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue. The car belonged to a 45-year-old man who was visiting the resident from Gurnee, Illinois, authorities said.

The resident told the dispatcher that he and his friend had detained one of the burglars, Evanston Police spokesman Perry Polinski said. The resident later told police he was armed and held an Illinois Concealed Carry License, which allowed him to legally carry a concealed firearm in the state.

Witnesses told police when they arrived on the scene they saw a man running south through backyards, Polinski said. Officials apprehended the 18-year-old man in the 1200 block of Lee Street around 12:30 p.m.

The wallet stolen out of the vehicle was found in the backyard of a residence in the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue, Polinski said.

The two Chicago residents, ages 18 and 19, were charged with burglary from a motor vehicle, police said.
