Police: Body found Saturday may be missing Northwestern researcher

A body found Saturday along the lakefront of campus may be that of a missing Northwestern researcher, police said.

The body was discovered washed ashore on the Lakefill during Dillo Day, according to authorities. Police said they were called to the scene at about 6:10 p.m.

Based on possessions found with the body, police said it may be that of Corey Janczak, 29, a laboratory coordinator in molecular sciences who went missing more than two weeks ago.

Although it may take several weeks to determine the person’s cause of death, the Cook County medical examiner’s office has indicated it was drowning, according to police. They do not believe foul play was involved.

The medical examiner’s office had not identified the body as of Tuesday evening. The cause and manner of death were “pending further investigation,” the medical examiner’s office said.

The death was unrelated to Dillo Day, according to police.
