An Evanston man has been charged with breaking into five cars in Skokie, police said Wednesday.

Bail has been set at $50,000 for Scott Del Valle. Police said the 20-year-old man is responsible for the burglaries, which happened in and near the 8000 block of Laramie Avenue in Skokie.

Officers responded to a call Monday night of someone pulling on car door handles, according to police. When the officers arrived on scene and approached Del Valle, he fled and jumped over a fence.

Police said the officers found Del Valle hiding in a garage with a backpack containing several items from the cars.

Del Valle, of the 100 block of Ashland Avenue, was charged with five counts of burglary to a motor vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 6.
