Dow Hotel Company buys Hilton Orrington, plans $6 million revamp

The Dow Hotel Company announced Tuesday that it has partnered with private equity firm Carlyle Group to purchase Evanston’s Hilton Orrington hotel.

Dow said it will operate the hotel, 1710 Orrington Ave., and is planning about $6 million in renovations and upgrades over the next 12 months.

“Our first step will be to reach out to establish close ties with the Evanston community, Northwestern University and our other neighbors,” Dow president Murray Dow said in a news release. “We will build on the hotel’s reputation as the North Shore’s preferred gathering place and will implement a dramatic enhancement to the food and beverage experience.”

Improvements will be made in the guest rooms, corridors, lounges and public meeting areas, according to Dow.

The hotel will have an entrance off its lobby to Farmhouse Evanston, the sister eatery to Farmhouse Chicago. The self-described “Midwestern craft tavern” will cook with ingredients from local farms and have 36 beers on tap.

The 259-room hotel completed a renovation in 2004 and was upgraded from an independent property to a Hilton hotel in 2010.
