Evanston teen beaten up by three youths
Three young men beat up a 14-year-old Evanston boy in an attempted phone robbery Monday afternoon, Evanston police said.
The boy was reportedly walking in the 1800 block of Hovland Court about 6:30 p.m. when the three juveniles beat him up and attempted to take his iPhone away from his pocket, Cmdr. Jay Parrott said. Parrott said the three fled east when the attempt failed. The boy suffered red swelling on his face and elbows, Parrott said. Detectives are currently investigating the case, and one person involved in the incident is said to be identified, Parrott said.
Evanston man charged with assault
Police arrested a 21-year-old Evanston resident in the 1700 block of Maple Avenue on Saturday afternoon in connection with assault, police said.
Parrott said the man had threatened another Evanston resident verbally and implied he had a gun. The man is scheduled to appear in court June 5.
