Journalism is changing – it’s a line every journalist and non-journalist has heard at some point – and in a changing profession, The Daily Northwestern is changing as well.
The Daily prides itself in being the best source for Northwestern news, and under that realm also fall sports. Over the past few years, The Daily has fallen behind the pack in terms of NU sports coverage, and in an effort to provide the best content for our audience, we’re announcing the formation of Wildcat Extra – wildcatextra.com – which will host all of The Daily’s sports content.
In addition to the name change, you’ll also see a number of changes to The Daily’s coverage that will enhance your readership. We will have much more multimedia, including video from player interview and press conferences, as well as video roundtables.
In addition to game stories and previews, we will have much more analysis and opinion to bring you inside each sport. We are also announcing two new blogs. The first, “Central and Ashland,” will be a blog about NU football and basketball and the second, “The Lakefill,” will cover all the other sports at NU. The blogs will be NU focused, but will also hit on sports news around the Big Ten and around the country.
This quarter, “Central and Ashland” will be run by Kevin Trahan and Chris Johnson, while “The Lakefill” will be run by Colin Becht. However, both blogs will have other contributors from The Daily.
The blogs will be focused on analysis and opinion, as well as multimedia, and will allow us to cover every NU sport – especially football and basketball – year round.
With so much content and such a wide range of it, we feel The Daily can be the best stop for NU sports news, analysis, opinion, features and multimedia. Make sure to stop by the blogs for routinely updated content and check us out on Twitter @Wildcat_Extra or like our Facebook Page, “Wildcat Extra.”
