Evanston Police Department’s anti-drug efforts featured on MSNBC series

The drug enforcement efforts of Evanston police were featured on national television Saturday in the MSNBC series “The Squeeze.”

EPD officers have been collaborating with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department for several months in a drug enforcement investigation, which was partially filmed in Evanston, according to the city’s website.

The footage, which aired at midnight, showed police officers apprehending an alleged heroin dealer. The operation involved the work of an outsider who revealed himself in the clip to be a cop.

“We don’t do much undercover with our own officers in town,” EPD officer Mike Endre said during the segment. “It’s almost impossible for us to get into the drug dealers because they know us. They know our names, they know our faces.”

Evanston police were also shown seizing illegal firepower from the man’s home.
