Grant doubles LINK dollars at Evanston farmers market

Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets on Tuesday announced Illinois LINK card users can now double the value of their money at the Downtown Evanston Farmers Market.

LINK dollars can be matched 100 percent with no limit, a promotion made possible by a grant from NorthShore University HealthSystem to the Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets. For example, a LINK card holder with $30 in spending money will be able to purchase $60 worth of items.

Originally, there was a 50 percent match for the first $20, but remaining funds allowed an increase of those levels, said Nancy Burhop, a board member of the Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets.

The cards can be used at most of the farm stands at the market, which is located at the intersection of University Place and East Railroad Avenue.

The Downtown Evanston Farmers’ Market is open 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Nov. 5.
