Blotter 1/28: Evanston burglar sentenced to 15 years in prison

A Chicago man accused of stealing 72 packs of cigarettes and five digital cameras from an Evanston Walgreens will be spending 15 years behind bars, according to an Evanston police news release.

The original burglary occurred two years ago at Walgreens, 635 Chicago Ave. Evanston police responded to a burglary alarm and arrived to find the front window broken before seeing the man with a clear plastic bag.

The man, Lawrence Todd Lemons, 51, 1300 N. Sedgwick in Chicago, dropped the bag containing the stolen items and ran from the police as soon as he saw them, police said.

Lemons was charged with one count of commercial burglary before being sentenced Jan. 20 to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
