No one has been taken into custody for the homicide that occurred Sunday, the Evanston Police Department said in a press release.
The victim, whose cause of death was determined by the Medical Examiner’s Officer as homicide by multiple gunshot wounds, has been identified as 19-year-old Leslie G. Calvin of Evanston. Commander Tom Guenther added the victim died of gunshot wounds while driving northbound on Ridge.
Investigators are following “significant” leads provided by witnesses and associates of the victim, EPD said. No motive for the shooting has been identified, they said.
An EPD unit on patrol discovered the crime July 4 at approximately 6:55 p.m. when they reported to the 300 block of Ridge Avenue after hearing loud reports coming from the area. Officers found a maroon Dodge Caravan crashed into a fire hydrant at 330 Ridge and found a bleeding, unresponsive male in the driver’s seat.
Evanston Fire Department paramedics took the victim to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
As of Wednesday, EPD had no further updates.
