Student’s cell phone stolen for second time in two weeks
Someone stole the cell phone of a student in Elder Hall, 2400 Sheridan Road, for the second time in two weeks Saturday, police said.
The student left her Motorola CLIQ phone in a backpack in Elder’s third floor lounge between 2 and 3 a.m., said University Police Deputy Chief Dan McAleer. She returned to find it missing.The student checked with other residents of the dorm, but none said they had seen her phone, McAleer said. She told police her last phone was stolen just two weeks before.
Man steals woman’s wallet after she asks for directions
A man reached into a woman’s car and stole her wallet Wednesday when she stopped at Emerson Street and Darrow Avenue to ask him and his friends for directions, police said.
The woman was looking for a friend’s house around 3 p.m. and got lost, said Evanston Police Department Cmdr. Tom Guenther. When she asked the three men on the sidewalk for directions, one reached through her window and took her wallet and a pack of cigarettes out of her purse. Guenther said the wallet contained $83.
The woman drove a few blocks before discovering the wallet was gone, Guenther said. Police are still investigating.
Items found near Lakefill, homeless person suspected
A grounds management staff member found clothes, towels and food under bushes at the south end of the Lakefill on Tuesday, police said.
The staff member discovered the items at 7:15 a.m. while picking up trash, McAleer said. A homeless person may have been camping there, he said. Police will check to see if anyone shows up at the site over the next few days.
