Students, profs agree with CBS decision to keep Rather

They called him “Hurricane Dan.”

Drenched and clinging to a pole, Dan Rather first caught America’s eye during his famous 1961 coverage of Hurricane Carla. Since then, Rather has become a TV legend: He broke the story of JFK’s assassination. He went into Afghanistan in disguise. He interviewed Saddam Hussein. He reported as a Vietnam War correspondent.

“He’s an amazing man, an amazing journalist,” said Medill senior Alexis Wiley, a reporter for Northwestern News Network.
