Bodies found in apartment to undergo toxicology testing

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has released the names of two men found dead Monday in a south Evanston apartment, and police said they have found no signs that violence was involved in the deaths.

Examiners and Evanston police said Tuesday that they have not determined what caused the deaths of Hugo Barajas-Valencia, 25, of Farmington, Mich., and Ernesto Martinez, 35, of Dallas. The bodies were found in a residential building at 514 Florence Ave.

Police and fire crews called to the apartment at 2:29 p.m. discovered the men, who were pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy found no signs of trauma or violence on the mens’ bodies, said Deputy Chief Michael Perry of Evanston Police Department.

Police searched the apartment and did not find any signs of illegal drugs. The medical examiner’s office will perform toxicology tests, which will take six to eight weeks. Perry said police will have no way to determine the cause or manner of the deaths until they receive the results.

The house’s owner, who rents out his second floor as apartments, declined to comment.
