Playboy to seek NU students for ‘Girls of the Big Ten’ issue

Playboy staff will interview and photograph female Northwesternstudents Monday and Tuesday for the magazine’s first “Girls of theBig Ten” section in more than five years.

George Georgiou, a professional Playboy photographer, and hisassistant Cynthia Kay, a Playboy employee for more than 20 years, will conduct the interviews and photo shoot. They will takePolaroid head shots and full-body photographs, conduct shortinterviews and ask interviewees to fill out a “data sheet” listingtheir major, interests and body measurements.

“Anyone who’s interested, come in and at least see us ,” saidPlayboy spokeswoman Karen Ring. “I find that most really prettygirls don’t know how pretty they really are.”

Students can choose to be photographed clothed, semi-nude ornude for the audition.

“Our number one thing is to make the girl feel comfortable andat ease,” Ring said.

No student will be asked to do anything she is not comfortablewith, she added.

Playboy will select at least one student from NU to appear inthe magazine. Callbacks will take place Thursday, Friday andSaturday.

“We do makeup, hair — the whole nine yards — when they getcalled back,” Ring said.

A portion of the photos taken over the weekend may appear inPlayboy, but students won’t be notified if their body shot appearsin the special section until August. Every woman called back willbe paid for the session.

Communication freshman Nibette LaFrennie said she is planning tointerview next week but has not thought too much about what willhappen if she is selected.

“I’d just never thought about it before and I thought, ‘Whynot?'” LaFrennie said. “The reason I decided to go ahead with theinterview was because I talked to my dad and he said he’s OK withit.”

The last “Girls of the Big Ten” photographs appeared as aspecial issue in March 1998 and featured two Northwestern students. The October issue with the special section will hit newsstands Aug.25.

Any female who is at least 18 years old and enrolled at a BigTen school is eligible to audition by calling 312-401-7343.Candidates are encouraged to bring a two-piece swimsuit for theaudition. Interviews will be scheduled to avoid class conflicts,Ring said.
