NU student jumped on cars, broke windows, police say

A Northwestern student was arrested Thursday after he was spotted vandalizing parked cars on the 600 and 700 blocks of Noyes Street.

Weinberg freshman John Zegarski, an 18-year-old resident of Bobb Hall, was charged with four counts of criminal damage to property at 2:02 a.m., said Cmdr. Michael Perry of Evanston Police Department.

Witnesses told police they saw three men jumping on cars and making loud noises, Perry said. The men thumped on the car hoods and broke several of the cars’ windows.

University Police was called in to assist EPD, Perry said. While two of the three men escaped, Sgt. Steve Stoeckl of UP was able to catch the third man and bring him into custody.

The man was released after he posted bail.

Zegarski is scheduled to appear Feb. 7 at Circuit Court in Skokie.
