Football: Wildcats debut at No. 21 in first College Football Playoff Rankings

Northwestern is the No. 21 team in the nation according to this season’s first edition of the College Football Playoff Rankings, released Tuesday night by ESPN.

This is the first week the College Football Playoff committee released its rankings. Previously, the Wildcats ranked as high as No. 13 in the AP Poll after a 5-0 start before tumbling out following blowout losses to Michigan and Iowa. NU is in the “others receiving votes” category of the current AP Poll, falling just short of the rankings behind Wisconsin, USC and BYU.
