In the basement of First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Evanston’s homeless sought shelter from the extreme cold outside. Cots and mattresses filled the space. Volunteers and guests mingled, playing cards and drinking tea.
Executive director of Interfaith Action Susan Murphy and the Rev. Betty Landis update commission members on Evanston’s emergency overnight shelter. The shelter opened its doors on 25 particularly cold nights during the winter.
