New Center Targets Epilepsy

Doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital hope to transform the hospital's three-month-old epilepsy center into one of the country's foremost programs for treating the disease. The Northwestern University Comprehensive Epilepsy Center brings together many of the hospital's existing epilepsy programs, including special programs for children, pregnant women and elderly people suffering from the disorder.

As a member of the organization CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy, the recipient of last years' Dance Marathon, I couldn't let Christopher Danzig's article criticizing DM go unchallenged ("Firing Squad," Jan. 29). Danzig takes issue with DM's choice of charities and their heavy support toward those helping children.

Dance Marathon is not perfect. It doesn't deserve the sacred treatment many Northwestern students unequivocally give it. Raising $800 is not simple and easy. It takes a lot of time and envelope licking, not to mention well-financed relatives and family friends.

And what ship is now a national World War II Memorial? The groups scribbled down answers on scraps of paper Tuesday night, trying to win Dance Marathon's first Trivia Night at the 1800 Club.
