Susie Neilson (Medill ’15) and former Daily staffer Megan Fan Munce (Medill ’22, ’22) won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting on Monday.
In a series titled “Burned” for the San Francisco Chronicle, Neilson and Munce, along with Sara DiNatale, examined how insurance companies left California residents unable to rebuild their homes after wildfires, according to the Chronicle.
Medill Prof. Debbie Cenziper was also honored as a finalist in the Investigative Reporting category along with Megan Rose and Brandon Roberts for a ProPublica investigation “exposing how the Food and Drug Administration allowed the import of generic drugs from foreign factories that violated safety standards,” according to The Pulitzer Prizes website.
Commonly regarded as the highest national honor in print journalism, Pulitzer Prizes are given out annually by Columbia University. Winners and finalists for 23 categories are selected by judges from over 2,500 entries, about 1,100 of which fall across 15 journalism categories.
