What’s in Their Bag is a recurring feature where The Daily’s Photo Desk takes a visual deep dive into the life of a person by unpacking their bag with them. We are discovering what ’Cats collect and carry with them. This week, we are spotlighting Daniela Caceres, a triple major with two jobs and a penchant for creativity. Daniela “Dani” Caceres is a Weinberg sophomore studying Art Theory and Practice, American Studies and Art History. Caceres is originally from Teresópolis, Brazil but calls Austin, Texas her home. Their bag and its contents reflect both their academic commitments and creative endeavors. 

Caceres’ bag features art supplies, a juice box and a butter putty tin.

On campus, Caceres carries a lot of things in her blue Family Ambassador backpack, as she “likes to be prepared for anything.” To accessorize the bag, they clipped on a pink “Labubu”  that their mother got her for Christmas.

“It’s not a real Labubu,” she said, “(but) I think it’s sweet to keep something she gave me.”

Caceres works as an undergraduate assistant for Student Organizations & Activities. They also help coordinate events at Luna’s Pub & Grill for her job with Norris Programs. She said she carries her two name tags with her each day, even if she doesn’t have work.

Along with their coursework, Caceres carries materials for their two on-campus jobs. During the day, she works in the SOURCE, for Student Organizations & Activities, where she helps administrators oversee student clubs. As part of their work with Norris Programs, they work in Luna’s Pub & Grill where they do “weekly karaoke nights, weekly trivia nights and variety nights on different days.” 

Like many college students, Caceres said her most essential item is her laptop.

Even though their schedule is hectic, they still find time to make an impact on the community. This year, Caceres created Arco, a student organization meant to provide fellowship among “queer Latine students.” As internal president, they coordinate logistics with others on the executive board and curate a positive community. 

Arco recently had a painting night, hence the paint brushes in Caceres’ bag.

The item that surprised her the most to find in her bag was a pack of gum. “I don’t know why I have gum. I actually don’t like gum,” she said.

Caceres said their favorite items in their bag are the fidget toys that they often use during class. She said she “can’t sit still” and can’t live without her purple NeeDoh.
