Northwestern University in Qatar will continue remote operations and classes for the rest of the semester, NU-Q Dean and CEO Marwan Kraidy announced in a Tuesday email sent to the NU-Q community.
“Our intent is to reduce uncertainty and to provide clarity and steadiness for the weeks ahead, so that our community can focus on completing the semester with purpose,” Kraidy wrote in the email.
The decision was made in consultation with Evanston campus leadership, including the Provost, and “local partners,” according to the email. Kraidy wrote they considered community “safety and well-being” and maintaining “continuity” of academia and research.
Since Feb. 28, NU-Q community members have navigated shelter-in-place orders and evacuation protocol, amid ongoing strikes from Iran in Qatar and other Gulf states following a U.S.-Israel joint-military operation. On March 5, NU-Q leadership announced the community would enter remote operations until the end of Ramadan.
NU-Q’s academic team will provide more information on support guidance in the next week, and details regarding graduation will be given after the Eid break, according to the email.
NU-Q’s Eid break is March 20-28.
