On Tuesday night, Mayor Daniel Biss, Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton and Winnetka environmentalist Patrick Hanley secured Democratic nominations for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and Illinois State Senate, respectively.

The historic Illinois primary has drawn national attention following the retirement of longtime U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston), whose 9th Congressional District includes Evanston.

Polls opened at 6 a.m. on March 17, as voters of all ages braved chilly temperatures to cast their ballots at one of 26 polling sites serving Evanston’s 45 precincts.
