No. 81-ranked junior Daniel Svärd shot a 5-under 205 to tie for first place as No. 34 Northwestern finished in third place at The Goodwin in Stanford, California. The event was the team’s second-to-last of the regular season.
Svärd carded five birdies en route to a 3-under 67 first-round score and punched in an eagle on the 505-yard 16th hole to shoot even in the second round after earning three bogeys on the front nine.
A birdie on the 17th hole in the final round earned the two-time defending Big Ten champion a spot tied in first place with four other golfers. It was Svärd’s best finish of the season.
The Wildcats shot a team 1-under, finishing only behind No. 15 UCLA and No. 32 Colorado. UCLA paced the tournament with a team 11-under. However, NU finished ahead of 10 ranked teams, including No. 13 Utah.
Bolstered by a 2-under 68 second round and 3-under 67 final round, junior Ethan Tseng finished in 21st with a 1-over 211 for his third top-25 finish of the season.
Sophomore Niall Shiels-Donegan shot a 2-over 212 to finish 26th and senior Cameron Adam fired a 5-over 215 to tie for 49th place. Sophomore Archie Finnie finished with a 10-over 220 to tie for 93rd place and sophomore Jeremy Chen, competing independently, finished tied for 137th with an 18-over 228.
The ’Cats will conclude their regular season at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in Charlottesville, Virginia, April 14 and 15.
