A man stole a new vehicle from the Evanston Autobarn, 1033 Chicago Ave., on Thursday.

At around 1:45 p.m., the man asked to test drive a 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, valued at approximately $30,000. The dealership permitted him to take the car out for a test drive, but he never returned, Evanston police Cmdr. Brian Henry said.

However, the man left his driver’s license at the dealership, and Henry said Evanston Police Department is using the license to track him down.

Man arrested for residential burglary

A 48-year-old man was arrested in Wilmette yesterday and charged with burglary.

The man was arrested on unrelated charges, but EPD had a warrant out for his arrest, Henry said. On March 27, the man allegedly stole two power tools, valued at approximately $300, from an Evanston residence.

The homeowner returned to find the man loading the tools into the vehicle. The man subsequently fled the scene. Henry said EPD was able to track the tools to a local pawn shop, where detectives then found the name of the man and issued an arrest warrant.

There is no court date set at this time.
