Officers arrested a 39-year-old Chicago man Wednesday and charged him with driving under the influence.

Evanston Police Department officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of Lincoln Street around 1 a.m., Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said. When officers approached the man in the car, they smelled a strong odor of alcohol, Glew said.

Officers reported that the man’s eyes were bloodshot and he appeared confused, Glew said. He said the man used slurred speech while providing his name.

The man was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which he failed, Glew said. Officers said he was unable to answer questions about the date and his location.

Officers subsequently charged the man with driving under the influence.

Officers responded to a report of theft Wednesday night in the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue.

An AT&T employee called police to report that two men and one woman entered the store around 6:45 p.m. Glew said as one of the men approached the employee about opening an account, the other two people grabbed two boxes of Beats wireless speakers and ran out of the store.

The employee reported that another man was waiting outside of the store and fled with the three other people, Glew said. The items taken were worth $600.

Police canvassed the area but were unable to locate any of the individuals.
