A Chicago resident stole a product from the AT&T store in the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue Wednesday evening.

The Evanston Police Department received a call from an AT&T store employee shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said.

The employee told EPD that a pair of Beats headphones valued at $200 had been stolen.
Around the same time, police received a call from Uncle Dan’s in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue. An employee reported that a North Face beanie and a Patagonia bag, valued at $35 and $59 respectively, had been stolen.

Police officers who responded to the first call located a person matching the description given nearby, Glew said. Police talked to the 55-year-old Chicago man and asked him if he had anything on him that did not belong to him.

The man admitted to having stolen property in his Whole Foods bag, and police recovered the Beats headphones and Uncle Dan’s products.

Glew said both store managers did not want to issue complaints. The items were returned and Glew said the man is not allowed back in either store.
