A 23-year-old man was charged Sunday with traffic violations in southwest Evanston.

Officers observed a vehicle going southbound on Dodge Avenue. The driver switched his headlights off when turning east on Monroe Street, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. Officers stopped the car in the 1800 block of Monroe Street.

After police ran the man’s license plate, they discovered the Jeep was registered under his name, but noticed his license was suspended, Dugan said. The man was given traffic tickets for operating a vehicle without lights when required and for driving with a suspended license.

Vehicle stolen in downtown Evanston

A Hyundai Tucson was stolen Sunday in downtown Evanston.

The car’s owner, a 23-year-old Des Plaines resident, said she had parked her vehicle in front of a business in the 1000 block of Davis Street at around 6:25 p.m., Dugan said. She told officers she left the vehicle running, but had the key fob in her possession when she exited the vehicle.

When she returned two minutes later, the vehicle was missing, Dugan said. Police have no suspects.
