A Chicago woman was arrested Monday night in connection with driving while under the influence in south Evanston.

The woman got into a traffic accident in the 1800 block of Dempster Avenue and said that her foot slipped off the brake in the parking lot, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. She subsequently struck a glass window of the business located there.

Officers noticed her breath smelled like alcohol, her eyes were bloodshot and her speech was slurred, Dugan said. She denied having consumed alcohol, but stated she took pain medication earlier.

After failing a field sobriety test, she was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, a misdemeanor.

License plate stolen in north Evanston

A 69-year-old Evanston resident stated that on July 17, unknown suspects stole her front Illinois license plate, Dugan said.

At the time, her car was parked in the Whole Foods parking lot in the 2700 block of Green Bay Road.

There are no suspects, Dugan said.
