Sophomore Ashley Ko raced to a ninth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the Redbird Invitational on Saturday, clocking a time of 19:07.04 in Normal, Illinois.

Ko was one of two Northwestern runners who competed in the weekend’s invitational at Illinois State, with fellow sophomore Mary Orders also representing the Wildcats downstate. Orders crossed the line in 19:24.32, good for 12th place.

Orders and Ko last saw race action at the Orange and Blue Open in Champaign, Illinois in one of NU’s final races of the indoor track season. The pair grabbed top-10 finishes in the 3,000-meter race, and netted times of 10:57.85 and 11:02.70, respectively.

At the Redbird Invitational, NU faced a field largely composed of in-state opponents, including Loyola, Northern Illinois and Eastern Illinois among others.

NU will travel to the West Coast this week for a pair of meets in California. The Cats will compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, before heading to Torrance for the Mt. Sac Relays.
