Two Skokie residents were arrested Tuesday after attempting to steal $200 worth of electrical switches from a Home Depot located in the 2200 block of Oakton Street, police said.

Loss Prevention agents reported the incident to the Evanston Police Department around 5 p.m., Evanston police spokesman Perry Polinski said. The two attempted thieves, a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, left the store without the electrical switches after being confronted by the agents, he said. Polinski said the woman threatened the Loss Prevention agent before exiting the store.

Loss Prevention was able to identify the getaway car as a 2003 Cadillac, and responding officers pulled it over in the 7700 block of McCormick Boulevard. Police then arrested the man for theft and the woman for disorderly conduct, respectively, Polinski said.

There was a third passenger in the car who was not charged, Polinski said. The man and woman are currently awaiting trial, he said.

Evanston woman reports attempted burglary

An Evanston resident reported Tuesday an attempted burglary to her apartment in the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue, police said.

The 34-year-old woman told police around noon she had noticed Monday that a trash can outside her unit had been moved under her window and the screen had been pushed up, Polinski said.

The window was locked so the attempted burglar could not enter, he said. There are currently no suspects, Polinski added.
