Keylor Chan will not be returning as the Wildcats’ head coach next season, Northwestern announced Friday.

Chan had been at the helm for the past 16 seasons, leading the Cats to a 228-247 record during that span. NU reached the NCAA tournament four times during Chan’s tenure, most recently in 2010.

“I have appreciated the opportunity Northwestern has provided me in my career and I will always cherish the people,” Chan said in a news release. “I have coached with some amazing coaches and had the privilege of working with some amazing student-athletes. I wish nothing but the best for Northwestern.”

The 2015 season marked the first time the Cats finished with a losing record since 2008.

A “national search” for a new coach will begin immediately, NU said in the release.

Chan is the fifth coach to leave NU in the past year.
