Women’s Basketball: Northwestern receives at-large bid to WNIT, faces Ball State at home Thursday

Northwestern will make a postseason appearance after all.

Despite a rough finish that saw the Wildcats (15-15) lose eight of their last nine games, including their first-round defeat in the Big Ten Tournament, NU received an at-large bid to compete in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.

The Cats will square off against Ball State in the tournament’s first round. The Cardinals (18-16) ended their season hot, winning seven games in a row to make a run in the Mid-American Conference before falling to Akron in the championship game.

One interesting stat to keep track of is coach Joe McKeown’s win total, which currently sits at 595. Should NU make a deep run into the bracket, the 28-year coaching veteran could celebrate the impressive 600-win milestone.

The game will be held in Welsh-Ryan Arena on Thursday, with the game time still to be announced. Courtesy of McKeown, admission to Thursday’s game is free for all NU students with a WildCARD.
