Police arrest Chicago man in connection with theft at Jewel-Osco

Police arrested a Chicago man Thursday afternoon in connection with retail theft at an Evanston grocery store.

The man, 24, was observed taking a bottle of liquor off of a shelf in Jewel-Osco, 1128 Chicago Ave., and concealing it in his jacket, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

Jewel employees stopped the man before he left, and police responded to the scene. The man had taken a bottle of E&J Brandy valued at about $15. The man has already been convicted in a previous retail theft case, meaning this charge will be a felony, Parrott said.

He is scheduled to appear in court on March 24.

More than $900 in clothes stolen from home in south Evanston

Someone stole more than $900 in clothes from a south Evanston home in January, police said.

Though only recently reported, the theft is believed to have occurred in the beginning of January in the 1100 block of Monroe Street. The resident of the home reported suits, shoes, assorted tools and other clothes stolen from a storage locker, Parrott said.
