Evanston Police find cannabis, cash in search warrant
The Evanston Police Department executed search warrants in the 2000 block of Warren Street and the 1300 block of Darrow Avenue at around 11:20 a.m. Friday in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation.
The investigation was held by detectives from the EPD Special Operations Group and assisted by police personnel from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Gang Crimes North Unit, according to a news release.
A large pit bull that acted aggressively toward police during their attempt to enter the home in the 1300 block of Darrow Avenue was put down and later recovered by the Evanston Police animal warden for disposal.
Officers seized several pills of Alprazolam, a controlled substance, 1 gram of crack cocaine and about 125 grams of cannabis combined from the two locations. They also found more than $2,300 believed to be used in illegal drug transactions, according to the release.
Five Evanston residents, ranging in age from 19 to 43, were arrested. All five residents were charged with felony cannabis possession, among other offenses.
Each individual is scheduled to appear in court at different times in February.
