Thief steals screwdriver from Dominick’s

A thief allegedly attempted to steal a screwdriver from Dominick’s on Wednesday evening.

Staff at the grocery store, 1910 Dempster St., watched a man open a package containing a screwdriver in the aisle, said Evanston Police Department spokesman Cmdr. Jay Parrott. The man fled when store employees tried to stop him. They recovered the screwdriver but did not catch the man, Parrott said.

Vandal cuts car tires

Someone cut all four tires of an Evanston resident’s Nissan parked in the 600 block of Sherman Avenue sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday, Parrott said. He added the resident said she had no information on the offender.

“Often when there’s a report generated from this there’s an underlying reason for the damage,” Parrott said. “Sometimes the police are made aware of it, and sometimes they are not.”
