In a rare move, a sitting Evanston alderman publicly weighed in Wednesday on Northwestern’s Associated Student Government presidential race.
Ald. Jane Grover (7th), who represents most of the NU campus, endorsed SESP junior Kameron Dodge and Weinberg junior Steven Monacelli on Wednesday.
“(Dodge and Monacelli) bring to the table a desire to build on our multifaceted city-University partnership, with an impressive commitment to the community beyond campus,” Grover said in a statement published on the campaign website.
Grover did not immediately return calls seeking comment Wednesday night.
Monacelli and Grover both serve on the city council’s Rental Unit Licensing Committee, and he said they have a strong working relationship.
“I’m not aware of any alderman making an endorsement before,” Monacelli said. “Since Alderman Grover is such a great ally of Northwestern, I reached out to her and let her know I was running and asked for her support.”
The other candidates in the race boast endorsements from former ASG presidents and campus leaders, but no members of the Evanston city government.
