Evanston pedestrian in critical condition after vehicle accident

A 56-year-old pedestrian remains in critical but stable condition after being struck by a driver Monday morning.

The pedestrian was walking east in the south crosswalk of Central Street when he was hit by a 69-year-old female driver who turned south onto Greenbay Road from westbound Central Street, according to a news release issued by the Evanston Police Department on Monday.

The pedestrian was transported to Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge Ave., due to life-threatening injuries.

Evanston police cited the driver with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to an email EPD spokesman Jay Parrott sent Tuesday. EPD and the major crash assistance team of the North Regional Major Crime Task Force investigated the accident.
