Evanston church statue knocked down

A statue of St. Francis belonging to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church was knocked down sometime between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Evanston Police Department officers met with the parish administrator of St. Mark’s, 1509 Ridge Ave., at about 4 p.m. Monday, EPD Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

The staTuesday, which stands in front of the church, is now visibly damaged. The total monetary harm the damage caused remains uncertain, officials said.
