Bike stolen from backyard, then returned three days later
Someone stole an Evanston resident’s bicycle from his backyard June 21 but returned it three days later, police said.
Near noon, a resident of the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue saw a boy he did not know enter his backyard and take the resident’s brother’s bike into the neighboring building, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott said. The bike, a blue and red Huffy Rock-It, was worth about $70.
Three days later, the resident called police and explained the situation, Parrott said. An officer went to the neighboring building, where someone let him into the basement. The officer did not see the bike, but 20 minutes later it was back in its owner’s yard.
The owner of the bike did not press charges, Parrett said.
Thief takes bag containing two $500 watches from unlocked car
Someone took a backpack containing two $500 watches from its owner’s car Friday, police said.
The owner had left the car unlocked in the 900 block of Grey Avenue, Parrott said. The backpack, which contained several miscellaneous items in addition to the watches, disappeared between 5:30 a.m. and 6:40 a.m.
At around 8 a.m., someone found a backpack in the 900 block of Lee Street matching the description of the one stolen, Parrett said.
Some of the original contents were inside. Parrott said he was not sure if these included the watches.
