Evanston encourages holiday light recycling

The city of Evanston is pushing residents and NU students to recycle old holiday string lights and extension cords, according to the city website.

Old lights can be dropped off at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Bvld., or at the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave. until Jan. 31. The recycling program will not be accepting garlands, greens or wreaths, according to the website.

The lights will be taken from the two collection sites to the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County to be recycled.
