Behind a third straight impressive outing from quarterback Dan Persa, Northwestern rolled to a 30-13 victory over Rice on Saturday.
Persa again anchored the Wildcats offense, completing 24-of-32 passes for a career-high 307 yards, including a 27-yard strike to Jeremy Ebert for a touchdown. Persa added a second touchdown on the ground with an 18-yard scramble.
Senior linebacker Quentin Davie, coming off a two-interception game a week ago, picked off Rice quarterback Taylor Cook and returned the interception 11 yards for NU’s first touchdown of the game.
The Cats scored 13 points before Rice got on the board with a 31-yard field goal to end the first half. The Owls added a last-minute touchdown with the game already in hand for the Cats.
NU opens the season 3-0 with their win down in Houston, and will finish up their non-conference schedule next Saturday at home against Central Michigan.
