We’ve been researching sex for a few weeks but recently started thinking backward. Specifically, we were onto what should logically lead up to sex: dating. NU is notorious for its – shall we say tame - dating scene, so we absolutely had to answer one burning question: Do Northwestern students actually go on dates? Not just the “He escorted me to The Keg, then I talked to my girlfriends for an hour and danced with them on a pole, and then we stumbled back to my place” kind of date. We mean the dinner-and-a-movie kind, maybe even involving flowers. (Well, that last part’s wishful thinking.) We found 57 percent of students surveyed said they had never once been on a date. The responses were more laughter than words, including one “Yes, several, and I regret it.” But don’t worry, there’s hope. One student says, “We rented a Segway for an hour in Chicago – but that was a lot of extra work.” OK, so maybe not.

Have you ever been on a romantic date with another Northwestern student?

No: 57 percent
