Student found dead in Foster House

Posted June 10, 8:05 p.m.

A male student was found dead late this morning inside Foster House, 2253 Sheridan Rd., university officials said this afternoon.

The student was identified as Matthew S. Sunshine, a SESP freshman from Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., according to an e-mail sent to the Evanston campus by Vice President for Student Affairs William Banis.

The cause of death has not been determined, pending an investigation by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, Cmdr. Tom Guenther of the Evanston Police Department said in a press release.

“On behalf of the University, I extend our deepest sympathies to Matthew’s family and to his fellow students and friends here at Northwestern,” Banis wrote. “The loss of any one member of our community affects us all.”

More details to come.
