Coming off of two wins against ranked conference foes, Northwestern found itself playing a style previously unseen by many fans of the program.

The Wildcats (10-7, 2-5 Big Ten) were playing with a vigor that disrupted the offenses of then-No. 17 Minnesota and then-No. 7 Michigan State in consecutive games. The two Big Ten wins accounted for more victories than the squad collected in 18 league contests last season.
But with a three-game Big Ten win streak at stake against Michigan, a feat NU had not achieved in five years, the team barely showed signs of life and played without a bounce to its step.
