Two weeks after winning the Nobel Prize, famed economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman will speak at Northwestern Oct. 27, Kellogg School of Management officials said this afternoon.
Krugman had agreed to speak at NU before his award was announced Monday, Kellogg senior associate dean Kathleen Hagerty said. He will speak at 5:15 p.m. at the Coon Auditorium in the Jacobs Center for 45 minutes on a yet-to-be-announced topics, and take questions for 15 minutes afterward.
Hagerty called Krugman a “very distinguished academic” and a “leader in the world of public intellectuals.”
“He can talk about really timely things that matter to a lot of people,” added Megan Washburn, Kellogg’s director of media relations.
Krugman will be the first in a series of well-known speakers Kellogg intends to bring to campus this year, Washburn said. The school is finalizing an agreement with Stanford law profesor Lawrence Lessig to appear in March, Washburn said.
The event is free and open to the public, Hagerty said.
“Half the time I’m worried no one’s going to be there and half the time I’m worried it’s going to be full,” she said. “I think I’m worried about the latter now.”
