2006 will not be the year the Cats dance (Column)

If anybody wants to know anything about Big Ten basketball, they talk to Illinois coach Bruce Weber and Michigan State coach Tom Izzo. With the departure of Purdue’s legendary coach Gene Keady, these two men have become the Jedi masters of the conference.

So at Media Day two Sundays ago, I took a seat beside these two revered masterminds to find out their perception of Northwestern basketball.

What I received was a very unlaudatory review, which I can’t say I wasn’t expecting.

Coming off last season in which these two coaches, and many others throughout the conference and nation, deemed NU a possible Cinderella for the NCAA tournament, nobody seems to be singing the Cats’ praises coming into this year’s campaign.

Izzo listed his top-8 teams in the Big Ten
