Men’s Soccer: 2nd in Big Tens seals 1st NCAA bid

The Northwestern men’s soccer team learned Monday that it will appear in the NCAA Championships for the first time in the program’s 24 year history.

The Cats (14-5-2) will play Western Illinois (11-5-1), a team they beat 3-0 earlier this year, at Lakeside Field on Friday in the first round of the 32-team tournament. If NU wins they will advance to play 14th seed Creighton on Nov. 23.

“Today is a historic day for Northwestern soccer,” coach Tim Lenahan said at Globe Caf
