Senior Angela McMahon has been a key to NU’s rise up the ranks the past three seasons

Although she’s the only graduating senior on the Northwestern lacrosse team, and even with the nickname of “Queenie,” Angela McMahon still can get shown up by a freshman.

McMahon’s stunning performance of “Killing Me Softly,” a duet with teammate Sarah Albrecht, proved no competition for freshman Kristen Kjellman’s rendition of “Footloose” on a road-trip version of NU Lacrosse Idol.

“I was getting a little cocky, saying Sarah and I were better,” said McMahon, a Communication major. “Maybe Kristen really was better. But the judges took that into consideration, that they didn’t want anyone being too cocky.”

McMahon, or “Ange” as her teammates call her, may not be cocky, but she is confident. The attacker is eager to talk about the strengths of her game and her team, and she is not shy when she says, “We work to be good, and we are.”

But even though she struggled between “intense” and “competitive” as the words to describe herself on the field, McMahon said she’s mostly just low key when not in uniform. That shows in her favorite leisure-time activity: watching television, especially reality TV.
